My Diary

We all went to London today to meet with a Consultant, Dr Gaze, to discuss Jacob having a treatment called MIBG. Jacob thought this was great as we all went on the train, which was very fast! I (Jacob’s Daddy) did take a picture of Jacob in the driver’s compartment, but I accidently erased this - silly Daddy!

Dr Gaze was such a nice man and told us all about the treatment. MIBG is basically a substance that is mixed with a radioactive chemical. This is then infused via Jacob’s Hickman line. MIBG is meant to be very good at targeting individual neuroblastoma cells and we are praying for a positive response to this treatment. The treatment will begin in two weeks and will hopefully be finished by Christmas.

Agreeing to have the treatment was not a hard decision to make as we don’t really have any other options at the moment. Our hope is that the MIGB treatment will clear the cancer from Jacob’s bones and allow him to progress to surgery for removal of his primary tumour.

The downside to receiving this treatment is that Jacob will have to remain in isolation for a whole week, and then after a week away from the hospital, he will then return for a second dose and a further week in isolation. We will only be able to have minimal contact with Jacob and he won’t be able to see his brother Ben for four weeks because of the radiation levels. Jacob understands what he will be going through and will probably cope better than the rest of us! When we told him about the treatment, his response was “fine”. What a brave boy he is!!!

We ask everyone who reads this to pray for Jacob and for a positive response to the treatment.
