My Diary

Jacob has been in really good health recently and has had the time of his life in the past few weeks. This was topped (you would think!) by him appearing as a walk on mascot for Manchester United - in case any of you missed it, Jacob walked on with Ronaldo! However, Jacob says the thing he enjoyed most was spending the afternoon with Cheshire Police. A really nice chap called Darren came to pick Jacob up in his car and they did lots of special things. He even got to keep his own uniform!

So, like I said, back to reality.............Jacob’s next round of treatment starts on Monday (17th March). This will begin with six days of high dose chemotherapy and then up to six weeks of isolation. We have prepared Jacob, as much as you can with any five year old boy, about his treatment and what this will involve. As usual, he doesn’t seem phased by this and is reassured by the fact that one of us will be with him at all times.

There is a lot hanging on this treatment and, as mentioned in previous updates, we are extremely anxious about the risks involved. Sadly, our anxiety has now been brought into sharp focus, for as I write this update we have just found out that Jacob’ s best buddy on the cancer ward, Callum, died this week. Callum had battled the same cancer as Jacob and had recently received the same high dose chemotherapy that Jacob is about to receive. Sadly, Callum developed a severe lung infection during his treatment and never recovered. We have decided not to tell Jacob as he would be devastated. Two little soldiers who go through what these two have been through in the past year develop a special bond. Our hearts and our prayers go out to Callum’s family.

As ever, we ask for your prayers and positive thoughts in the coming weeks. We know they are helping Jacob. People often ask us how we keep going, well we just look at this face........

Back To Reality!
