My Diary

Well, we received the initial results of Jacob’s scans today and were told that he has not responded to his MIBG radiotherapy treatment. The cancer remains in his bones, with no signs of improvement. The fuller picture will be given to us in the next week or so. We are devastated by this news, numb, in shock. I am only able to write this update because we know so many people are following Jacob’s battle and we want to let these people know and we also know they want to carry some of our load.

Everything possible has been thrown at Jacob’s cancer in the UK and still this monster remains. Surgery to remove Jacob’s tumour is unlikely to be offered now as this only occurs when there is no evidence of disease in the bone marrow. We don’t know where this leaves us in terms of treatment abroad, but we will pursue all options.

As if all this wasn’t enough, Jacob is currently in hospital with an infection of his Hickman Line (the tube attached to his main artery). He became very poorly several days ago and had to be admitted to hospital by ambulance. As usual, Jacob is putting up a brave fight, but his infection has been compounded by him having a severe allergic reaction to one particular antibiotic - the only one which works with this particular infection! So, there is no other option than to continue with this treatment, which is devastating to watch.

We just want Jacob home, to receive this news whilst we are yet again separated is just cruel. Please say an extra prayer for Jacob, he needs these now more than ever.
