My Diary

Hello Folks.
Just to let you know that Jacob is doing fantastically well after his high-dose chemotherapy and is really enjoying being back home with Ben. His blood counts are holding fairly steady, although he continues to require platelet transfusions in our local hospital. The main thing though is that Jacob has remained well and free from infections which is quite remarkable given what he has been through recently. Jacob is still not eating enough due to the after effects of his recent treatment and we feed him overnight via his nasal gastric tube and a special machine which administers a liquid feed.

We attended Clatterbridge Hospital today in Mersyside. This is where Jacob will receive radiotherapy to the site where his primary tumour was removed. This treatment will be administered daily for three weeks, but will not start until the end of May as there has to be a gap between this and his last chemotherapy. There are both short term and longer term side effects arising from this radiotherapy which are a little worrying, so we will have to hope that Jacob manages to be his usual resilient self.

Some of you will know that Jacob will celebrate his sixth birthday on Friday the 25th April. We are just so pleased that Jacob is back home and well enough to enjoy his special day, he deserves it so much and is so excited. We have arranged a small party for him and he will also be taking a trip to Knowsley Safari Park (which he is mad about) with a group of his friends.

On a very sad note a beautiful little girl called Samantha Hughes passed away last week. She battled against neuroblastoma for the best part of three years, but was so brave and always had a smile on her face. Only a month ago Samantha celebrated her 5th Birthday and looked so well, but such is the nature of neuroblastoma that it can spread rapidly and become unstoppable. Our thoughts are with her family at what must be an impossibly difficult time. Samantha’s website tells of her courageous fight here.http://www.samanthahughes.co.uk/index.htmshapeimage_1_link_0

What Next Birthday Boy!
