My Diary

Jacob is now back home, and as you can clearly see, he is delighted to be back with his brother Ben again. Jacob’s radiation levels dropped very quickly after his treatment and it is now safe for him to have close contact with other people. This means he can now play with his friends!!! and, of course, his brother Ben (Some of you may notice that Jacob had a visit from the Tooth Fairy whilst in hospital!). Jacob looks so well at the moment and his hair (lost as a result of his chemotherapy) is now starting to grow back.

We would like to thank the staff at UCH who looked after Jacob, they were fantastic and couldn’t have done more for us. Jacob was in hospital for almost a whole month, but this was made to feel much shorter by the quality of the care Jacob was given and the hospitality show to myself and Nicky.

As I write Jacob is currently undergoing his stem cell transplant at Alder Hey Hospital. Hopefully this should go okay. Some children have an allergic reaction to having stem cells transplanted, so fingers crossed Jacob gets through this procedure with no difficulties. The stem cells are those that were taken from Jacob and are given back to him to help his bone marrow recover after his MIBG and Chemotherapy at UCH.

Now Jacob is finally back home we are really looking forward to spending Christmas together (Jacob can’t wait to see the new Dr Who! episode on Christmas Day) and will be so glad to forget about treatment and hospitals for a while.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported us during the past year, we could not have got through without you. A special mention also goes to The 2Simple Trust who are supporting our appeal for Jacob’s treatment in the USA. By Christmas we hope to have raised in the region of £25,000. We still have a long way to go with our fundraising, but people are coming forward all the time and letting us know about the amazing things they are doing to help Jacob.

I have created a new ‘Fundraising Events’ page on the website, this is not yet complete but I will hope to finish soon. We are currently registering Jacob with the Just Giving website as this will enable people to set up their own web-based sponsorship page to raise funds for a particular event they are undertaking e.g. London Marathon. I will post details when this is completed.

Myself, Nicky, Jacob and Ben would like to wish all our supporters a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We will be toasting you all on Christmas Day.

Bye for now.
