My Diary

Jacob sailed through his first round of MIBG therapy and was able to come home for a week when his radiation levels dropped. It was great for us all to be together again, although Ben and Jacob had to stay apart during his time at home. This was really hard, especially for Ben who just wanted to cuddle and play with Jacob. Although the isolation was very frustrating and tedious, we made the best of the situation and tried to have as much fun as possible. We had to be very careful when entering Jacob’s room (sorry, TARDIS) and had to make sure that we wore protective clothing and our little radiation monitors.

The Doctors and nurses at UCH have been really pleased with Jacob’s progress so far, and commented on how well behaved and polite he is (well, most of the time!!!). We are realising just how much Jacob has matured in the past year and what a special boy he is.

Jacob is back in London on the 10th December for his second course of MIBG. From now on his blood counts will begin to drop and he will need blood transfusions in the coming weeks. We just hope that Jacob stays well in the run up to Christmas as he will become neutropenic, which means that his immune system will cease to function and he will be at risk from bacterial infections.

We won’t get the results of Jacob’s treatment until February 08. This will mean a wait of over a month! This will be difficult for us, but will also mean a month without any treatment, hospitals, doctors, nurses etc. No disrespect to all the wonderful staff who look after Jacob, but this will be really welcome after what is now a year in and out of hospital.

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who sent Jacob a card during his stay. For those of you who would still like to send a card to Jacob, the address is:
Jacob Marsland
London University Hospital
11th Floor Children’s In-patient Unit

I finish by thanking everyone who has helped support Jacob’s fundraising appeal so far. We have been overwhelmed by the way people have taken Jacob to their hearts. From what we know so far we will expect to have raised around £25,000 by Christmas, which is fantastic. When I (Jacob’s Daddy) get the chance I hope to add a new page to the website to discuss and publicise the different events that have taken place.

Once again, thank you all.

Please keep Jacob in your payers.

Bye for now.

Round Two!
