Just a quick update to say that Jacob was able to enjoy Christmas despite feeling quite poorly. As you will all know, Jacob is an extremely brave boy and always keeps smiling. Even though he didn’t really feel like it, he really wanted to enjoy his day and to be part of the Christmas celebrations. This was a difficult time though for us all though.........
Jacob received so many wonderful presents, too many to mention. It was however the small things which touched us all the most and none more so than a present from his best friend Charlie. You can see this in the picture above; a teddy bear which simply says ‘Friends Always’.......
Jacob is now on constant morphine to control his pain. At first this made him very sleepy and for a few very upsetting days days we wondered if we would ever see our usual happy Jacob again. However, we were told that his body would adjust to the morphine and that he would become more alert. By Boxing Day, Jacob became almost his usual self, telling jokes and making us all laugh.
We pray for this to continue, but the sad fact is that Jacob’s cancer is doing it’s worst. His blood counts are now falling rapidly and are a serious risk to his health. There is also evidence that his liver is ceasing to function properly and things will now only get worse. We know that our time with Jacob is slowly coming to an end and we are making the best of the time we have left together. We had hoped to take Jacob away for a special holiday, but now we are not so sure this will happen as Jacob is in quite a fragile state.
We have wonderful support from our family and friends and we are also being given support from the Home Care Team and Macmillan Nurses who are all fantastic and nothing is too trouble much for them.
We would like to thank everyone for their messages of support, we certainly do not feel alone at this difficult time and we will try to update people when we feel able to.
Anthony.
