Well, Jacob had his first cycle of his new chemotherapy and this hit him really hard. We have never seen him in so much pain, even through his high dose chemotherapy, which was a doddle compared to this. As usual, Jacob battled on but after a week of constant pain, sickness and diarrhoea, had to be admitted to hospital to prevent any further deterioration. Jacob was placed on antibiotics and needed to be re-hydrated intravenously.
After a few days back at home, Jacob was back in hospital to undergo an operation to have a feeding tube fitted into his stomach (you may have noticed from the picture that Jacob’s nasal tube is now gone). Although Jacob is in considerable discomfort following his operation, he is so pleased to be without his nasal tube and we no longer have the constant worry of this coming out when he is sick. During the operation, the doctors found that Jacob had an ulcer in the lining of his stomach. It was difficult to say how long this had been there, but looked to be healing.
So, we are now enjoying a quiet few days at home before Jacob’s next cycle of chemotherapy begins on Monday. Jacob will commence on additional antibiotics in order to hopefully counter the nasty gastric side effects of his chemotherapy. We pray this works as seeing him suffer as he did was very distressing to us all.
We would like to say a special thank you to all of Jacob’s classmates and teachers. They mad a special book for Jacob which really cheered him up (but made us cry!!). Jacob is really missing school and his all his friends, so we really hope he is able to get back there in a few weeks.
A final thank you to all the wonderful folks from Northwich who did their abseil on Sunday to raise funds for Jacob’s appeal.
Bye for now.
